I Thank You - A Poetic Rambling of My Thankful Heart

To contact us Click HERE
Dedicated to those who touch my heart tonight and make it restless for man's great need for God. He loves you more than you know. You only have to speak His Name and He is there for you. May you draw closer to Him than ever before. Take a chance. Take a step forward - to a life everlasting - in the loving arms of Christ, our Lord.

A poem inspired by my saddened heart. No matter where you are or what you do - stop and see what God is speaking to you through. His love is all around you. His Word is there to comfort you. His Creation is there to proclaim His glory.

Lord, in the still and quietness of the night...I thank you.
I thank you for the beauty of your Creation.
For the flowers so colorful and intricately crafted to perfection by your hands.
For the brilliant dance the sun performs upon the cloud formations in the sky at sunset.
For the soft whispering breath of a baby as it sleeps contently.
For the smile of a friend.
For the glance of love from my spouse from across the room.
For the joy your Word brings - even when I am feeling angry.
How it softens my disposition and fills my soul with humble gratitude to be your child.
Thank you for choosing me.
Thank you for who you are - my Father, my Creator, my Friend.

May all the world rejoice in the security of our Heavenly Father's endless love. He loves you. He will forgive you. He wants to know you more. Reach out to Him tonight. He is always there - waiting to hold your hand and guide the way.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

I believe this verse. Do you?

Then talk to God right now - right where you are, and ask Him to forgive you for your sins.
He sent His only Son to die for you on the cross to save you from your sins. Show Him that the sacrifice was worth it - accept His free gift of eternal life and start living a life that is righteous and  holy before the Lord. Make better choices. Reach out and learn more about who God is and who He wants to help you become. The wonderful light that is inside you can come shining through the more you grow in your love for God. Care for others in this world. Bless them in Jesus Name. There is so much more to life when you are set free through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Tell the world about Him. Praise His Holy Name! He is our Savior. He is always there when you need a friend. He loves you - even when the rest of the world has abandoned you. Run into His arms and ask Him to come into your heart tonight as Savior.

Many blessings,
Rebecca

Sweepstakes: Big Layaway Giveaway

To contact us Click HERE

This is a sponsored post, I am a Kmart Layaway blogger, though all opinions are my own.

Kmart_Logo_B&W.jpg (3 documents, 3 total pages)

It might only be September, but Kmart is already getting ready for early holiday shoppers picking out their holiday gifts and the ability to pick out items and reserve them through the free layaway program. To help celebrate, they're encouraging all shoppers to enter Kmart's Big Layaway Giveaway. I'd love to win the prize - all layaway purchases paid off (especially if I had some really expensive stuff on layaway).

There's going to be one layaway giveaway per store per week - and that's every week through 11/17/12! No purchase is necessary, and you can visit your local Kmart location or the website above for the official rules.

BLG_Logo_Horizontal.jpg (3 documents, 3 total pages)

Personally, I go shopping throughout the year. I find it a lot easier to be able to spread the expense out than try to pay for it all right after Christmas. So I've already started to keep my eye out for potential gift ideas - and already bought many of them. Kmart has a wide variety of products at their stores, and a lot of the things on my family's wish list can be bought there and put on layaway, such as an outdoor swingset for my girls, a new memory card for my husband's camera (he's always running out of space on the one he has), or a new digital camera for my sister-in-law so she can take snapshots of her new baby.

Kmart's layaway features are better than some other retailers. For example, there is no service fee (through November 17th), and if prices go up between now and when you pick up the item, you don't have to pay extra - you've locked in the lower price.

Time Tidbits: Ringya

To contact us Click HERE
Ringya is a new app for Android or iPhone that is designed to simplify the way you contact groups of people. To use, parents, teachers, club leaders, or anyone who frequently contacts groups can snap a picture of a contact list or email a digital list, which is transformed to a "Ring" (mobile list) on their phone. This allows you to save time entering in relevant people, and also allows you to call, text, or email either individual people or the whole group. It also ads contextual caller ID (adding info to the caller idea, such as VP, PTA or Suzy's Father, Jefferson 3rd Grade) so you know who's calling. The Rings can also be shared among family members or club members so other people can instantly receive the list.

Ringya makes group communications easy, such as letting club or team members know of schedule changes, finding a parent to schedule a playdate, coordinating family events, or setting up team meetings.

Right now there aren't a ton of videos; I just signed up and spent about 3 minutes and earned $1 If the site gets more use, I'm sure the earnings potential will go way up as more companies sign on for ads. Like any get-paid-to site you won't make a ton of money by itself, but it's really easy.

Parenting Pointers: Saving Money for Busy Moms

To contact us Click HERE

As a mom, you know that it can take a lot of effort to keepyour household's expenses under control. After bills, things the kids want, family needs and your savings account, you may find that there's not much moneyleft over for you to use on other things. This stressful and frustratingpredicament can be remedied, however. There are many everyday expenses that youcan save money on without making things more tedious for yourself and yourfamily.
Make Real Meals

A lot of moms turn to heat-and-eat meals and pre-packaged snacks becausethey're strapped for time and energy. While these foods may be fast and simpleto prepare, they provide little nutrition and cost a lot of money. Serving forserving, these convenience foods usually cost several times more than if you'dprepared the same amount from scratch. Although that often means time spent inthe kitchen, you don't have to spend hours cooking. Try things like sandwiches,slow-cooker meals, homemade pizzas and no-cook snacks to nourish and satisfyyour family while saving a heap of cash.

Turn Off Electronics

Modern devices like computers, televisions and game consoles suck a lot ofenergy when they're left on, yet most people leave them running all day long. This habit is based on the long-standing myth that electronics require moreenergy to power on than would be used if you'd simply left them on. In reality, all you're really doing is wasting energy. Energy consumption at power-up is sosmall that it doesn't matter. Consider making it a rule in your house that anydevices not currently being used must be turned off. Be prepared to watch yourenergy bill fall by leaps and bounds.

Shop at Thrift Stores

Are the kids outgrowing their clothes again? Buying entire new wardrobesseveral times each year can get really expensive if you buy them at departmentor clothing stores. If you think it's ridiculous to spend half a day's pay on ashirt and a pair of pants, then thrift stores are for you. It's not uncommon tofind current styles in excellent condition for less than a dollar.

Buy Discount Brands

If you only buy products made by big name brands, you're likely paying extramoney for nothing. In many consumer studies, people are unable to tell thedifference between generic brands and major ones. In fact, value brands areoften made by the major companies but given generic labels. By switching tooff-brands, you could save considerably on your weekly grocery bill.

Saving money doesn't have to mean making sacrifices or taking on extra burdens. These are just a few of the ways in which you can cut down on your expenseswithout a big effort. Try reviewing your budget and lifestyle habits to findother ways to shave off a few dollars.

About Riverside Pediatric Group
Riverside Pediatric Group is Northern New Jersey’s premiere pediatric group and host to free prenatal seminars for expectant parents. The Group embodies the “medical home,” a revolutionary concept in pediatric care recently endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The medical home approach encourages pediatricians to go beyond their conventional role, as “intermittent” providers of care at brief patient visits for isolated issues, and approach the patient as a whole. Riverside Pediatric Group collaborates with the parents in all decision-making and emphasizes preventative care and around-the-clock access to a child’s healthcare team. Offering the longest hours of any pediatric practice in the country – 8 a.m.-midnight, 7 days a week, 365 days a year – Riverside Pediatric Group provides the kind of high quality, state-of-the art equipment normally found only in emergency rooms or offices of sub-specialists. The National Fire ProtectionAssociation’s (NFPA) annual awareness campaign, Fire Prevention Week, will take place October 7-13. The theme for this year is ‘Have2 Ways Out’ - focusing on theimportance of having multiple escape routes in the event of a fire.

The FirePrevention Week website is thecentral portal for information and resources to help people from fire chiefsand community leaders running outreach programs to parents teaching theirfamilies basic home fire safety information. The siteincludes fire safety tip sheets, fire statistics, a family safety checklist,Sparky the Fire Dog® activities for kids and public service announcementvideos.
Visitors canalso test their knowledge of fire safety with the FirePrevention Week Quiz, a great resource to see how well prepared families arefor an emergency. Quiz-takers can review their results and compare them withothers via Twitter and Facebook.
New for2012, NFPA launched Sparky’sWish List, designed to help fire departments connect with their localcommunities. Fire departments across the country have registered for publicsafety education materials they need in their communities. Individuals can thenhelp their local fire department prepare for Fire Prevention Week by fulfilling the wishes.
NFPA offers these important fire safety tips:
  • Watch your cooking:  Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you must leave, even for a short time, turn off the stove.
  • Give space heaters space:  Keep fixed and portable space heaters at least three feet from anything that can burn. Turn off heaters when you leave the room or go to sleep.
  • Smoke outside:  Ask smokers to smoke outside. Have sturdy, deep ashtrays for smokers.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach:  Keep matches and lighters up high, out of the reach of children, preferably in a cabinet with a child lock.
  • Inspect electrical cords:  Replace cords that are cracked, damaged, have broken plugs, or have loose connections.
  • Be careful when using candles:  Keep candles at least one foot from anything that can burn. Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.
  • Have a home fire escape plan:  Make a home fire escape plan and practice it at least twice a year.
  • Install smoke alarms:  Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. Interconnect smoke alarms throughout the home. When one sounds, they all sound.
  • Test smoke alarms:  Test smoke alarms at least once a month and replace conventional batteries once a year or when the alarm “chirps” to tell you the battery is low. Replace any smoke alarm that is more than 10 years old.
  • Install sprinklers:  If you are building or remodeling your home, install residential fire sprinklers. Sprinklers can contain and may even extinguish a fire in less time than it would take the fire department to arrive.

Did you know that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women? I personally have two friends whose mothers died battling breast cancer, and my grandmother and another friend are survivors.
There's a fun and beautiful new product that will get you in the fall mood while helping raise funds for breast cancer research. The Pink Pumpkin Patch and is promoting a natural pink-skinned pumpkin, which is debuting all across the country this October just in time for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   These pink pumpkins are part of the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation’s national campaign, “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch – Let’s Unite Against Breast Cancer.” The campaign is designed to encourage everyone to join the fight against breast cancer by placing pink pumpkins on their porches and in their homes as part of their annual Halloween and fall décor.  In support of “Pink Pumpkins on Your Porch,” the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation has partnered with pumpkin farm owners and growers across the country who have agreed to $.25 per pumpkin to the Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation.  Funds will then be donated to breast cancer research organizations.

Mealtime Magic: Beans, Lentils & Tofu

To contact us Click HERE
Admit it. When you read the title, you didn't really want to read this post, did you? Nobody really uses tofu unless they're vegetarian, and lentils and beans are just for people too poor to afford "real" food, right?

That's what a lot of people think, although all three can be very healthy sources of protein, not just for vegetarians, but for people looking to reduce their impact on the planet, or lower the amount of calories and fat consumed. And they can be cooked and served in a variety of ways, as appetizers, soups, sandwiches, salads, main dishes, and sides. Here are just a few recipes excerpted from 250 Best Beans, Lentils and Tofu Recipes: Healthy, Wholesome Foods.

Teriyaki Rice Noodles with Veggies and Beans

2 c rice noodles
1 T olive oil
1 small onion, diced
1 c chopped carrots
1 c chopped celery
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 c broccoli florets
1/2 c reduced-sodium teriuaki sauce
dash hot pepper sauce
1 c mixed beans, drained and rinsed (about 2 c)

Prepare rice noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté onion, carrots and celery until onions are softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and broccoli; cover and cook for 5 minutes. Stir in teriuaki sauce, hot pepper sauce, beans and rice noodles; cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Variation: To change the texture of this recipe, substitute couscous for the rice noodles.

Cider Baked Beans

2 c assorted dried beans
2 onions, finely chopped
3 stalks celery, peeled and thinly sliced
2 carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
2 large parsnips, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 t chili powder
1 t salt
1 t cracked black peppercorns
4 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick piece, about 2 inches
1 c apple cider or juice
1 c water
1/2 c maple syrup
2 T cornstarch, dissolved in 2 T cold water

Soak beans according to your preferred method. Drain and rinse and set aside.

In slow cooker stoneware, combine beans, onions, celery, carrots, parsnips, garlic, chili powder, salt, peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon, apple cider, water and maple syrup. Cover and cook on low for 10-12 hours or on high for 5-6 hours, until beans are tender.

In a bowl, combine dissolved cornstarch with 2 T hot cooking liquid from beans and stir until smooth. Gradually add up to 1/4 c hot bean liquid, stirring until mixture is smooth. Return mixture to stoneware and stir well until sauce thickens.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the recipe book to facilitate this post.
